Structural topology optimization is the most challenging and hottest, as well asmost difficult research topic in structure optimization. Compared with the conventionalsize optimization and shape optimization, topology optimization has more designdegrees, and can get more benefit, so that it is more attractive for engineers. With thedevelopment of topology optimization, it is being applied to engineering practicegradually. For example, base-structural method used in discrete topology optimizationand Homogenization method、Variable thickness method、Variable density method usedin Continuum topology optimization and so on.This paper studies a bionic approach of structural topology optimization—the SKOmethod which scarcely is applied to the practical design, and realizes SKO methodusing APDL language and ANSYS platform. SKO method is based on biologicaladaptive growth law in nature, that is, material should be added where the loading isgreat, while material should be removed where the loading is small. For the concept ofstructural design optimization, it means that stress of every point in the structure shouldachieve the same stress, in other words, the optimal structure should satisfy the uniformaxiom.First, the relationship between Young’s modulus and the stress in the SKO methodis studied, which is the key issues of SKO method. Then it takes plate shell structurereinforcement as the research object, establish mathematical model of plate shellstructure reinforcement distribution bionic design method,analysis of the bionic designmethod,uses this method to study plate shell structure of the base structure of the building, stiffener bias, cross section type of design and reinforcement section sizeoptimization.According to ANSYS secondary development technology, it realizes plateshell structure reinforcement distribution bionic design software.As a practicalapplication, the outlet structure of large electrostatic precipitator(E.P)is optimized bythe suggested method. The results show that SKO optimization method can rapidlyoptimize shell structures and obtain the approximate optimization model. Comparedwith traditionally structural design, the proposed design method can not only rapidlyobtain approximate optimization model but also greatly reduce design cycle andincrease design effectiveness.
