The dynamic characteristics of the main drive system of rolling mill could be thoughta combination of some inertial compotents and flexible compotents. The dynamiccharacteristics and the stability of equipment are closely related to the quality of processedproducts.As the design specifications are increasingly stringent, the static design has beendifficult to meet the design requirements. In the past, the questions of dynamiccharacteristics of main drive system are mainly focus on the analysis of torsional vibrationof the rolling equipments and making judgments, but how to improve the characteristics ofmain drive system radically is especially important. This paper is based on mechanicalkinetic theory and making the φ36two rolling pipe mill as research object, setting updiscrete model with flexible system of many degree freedom, getting the vibrationequation of the many degree freedom system, calculating the rotational intertia ofcomponents and the torsional stiffness of shafts in the system, getting the the naturalfrequency and principal mode of the system through numberical calculation functions ofMATLAB software, calculating the sensitivity of the system, and the distribution of elasticpotential energy and modal flexibility in each mode, simulatiing the response curves andgetting the torque amplification factor of each shaft.Through the analysis, we found that the main drive system does not meet thedynamic design criteria, so it needs to be rework and reanalyse. This paper makescreationary exploration to the dynamic design method of the rolling mill’s main drivesystem and puts forward to a kind of unique method, the dynamic design criteria areachieved efficiently by the genetic algorithm optimization procedures. With the help ofGUI module of MATBAB software, developing the dynamic design software of maindrive system. The system has a good user interface and facilitates the the rolling millassessment and dynamic optimization, the comparition between the optimization resultsand the original design provides an effective method for the danamic design of main drivesystem in the future. Finally, through the optimization module of element software ANSYS, optimizing the connecting shaft for reaching the design scheme requiredstiffness.
