The coiler is very important equipment on the production lines of hot strip rolling and the functional state of coiler can directly influence the steady productive power of the rolling mills, componenticularly of the tandem mills. The coiling capability of coiler directly impacts the production ability of mill. The study of coiler has important theoretical and practical value.This paper first analyzed function and structure character of hot-rolling coiler, then simulation of coiling process and key component is done with finite element analysis software Marc. It included simulation analysis of strip coiling process and segment, improving the style of pinch roller. So this research afford basis for improving work condition and coiling ability of coiler.This paper first describes the type of hot-rolling coiler, working of the coiler and structure character, also summarize technological features and development.Secondly, the model of the coiling process is established, the dynamic simulation of strip coiling is carried out, componenticularly process of strip head’s bending and deformation. And the stress distribution of different coiling processes afford theory basis for steady controlling of coiling, avoid bad steel and avoid coiling out of the way. Secondly, analysis the biting conditions of pinch roller, establish model of pinch roller and compare contact stress of different pinch rollers, in order to improve the profile of pinch roller and get the optimal parameters of roll. This research can improve the uniformity of the force applied on the pinch roller. In other words, optimal profile of pinch roller not only can improve strip steady controlling, but also can reduce uneven wear of the pinch roller’s surface.Finally, the heating finite element model of segment is established, because segment is the key component of coiler’s mandrel, then simulated and analyzed heating status of segment during rolling. The thermal stress and temperature field are analyzed by finite-element method.
