Down coiler is one of the most important equipment for coiling strip. It is used to coil hot strip into coiled steel, and widely used in hot strip mill, thin and middle thickness slab cast&rolling mill, and steckel mill.At present, all down coilers used in large steel enterprises of our nation were imported. It has great economic benefit and social benefit to apply and maintain this equipment. So, domestic steel enterprises must have the ability to design down coiler in whole independently. Under the circumstance, China National Erzhong Group Co. took on this researching task together with Chongqing University aimming at fundamentally solving the basic design problem for down coiler from theory.This paper puts emphasis upon two parts, one of which is mechanics parameter, and the other is software development. The main researching work involves:Analysis and calculation of coiling tension; Force analysis and intensity checking of the working mechanisms; Analysis and correlative calculation of speed&acceleration scheme for coiling; Analysis and calculation of force moment and selecting electromotor for coiler mandrel; Conception of design software and laying out software; Statement on the hydraulic automatic jumping control system for wrapper roller and so on. The contents summarized in each chapter relate to many sciential domains, which include mechanism, electro technician, hydraulic pressure, automation, software engineering, etc.In this researching task, it is applied that not only the basic knowledge such as mechanics of materials, theoretical mechanics, higher mathematics, steel rolling engineering, but also the intellective theory up to date such as numerical analysis, finite element analysis, electrohydraulic servo control, etc. At the same time, the theory of elastic-plastic bending deformation for strip is deeply studied, and the method of calculating coiling tension is extended. On the aspect of creating mathematics and mechanics model, the modernistic design method such as inverse-do engineering, optimization design, CAD was adopted. The software has friendly interface and integrated function, and canautomatically design all the parameters; In addition, it is provided with the implemental function, which can help technical personnel analyze and testify the disciplinarian of the parameters and the rationality of the certain result.Under the circumstances of lacking information internationally, this task created the mathematics and mechanics models, and solved the basic design problem about the main parameters for down coiler from theory. Its theory and design method have some characters in novelty, creativity, advantage, and its result has veracity and reliability. In a word, its researching achievement keeps ahead in domestic. The application of its achievement will have caused national heavy industry to change the phase of relying on foreign advanced technique on design this equipment, furthermore, and make for enhancing the international competition of domestic steel enterprises.
