In recent years, water-transfer printing was widely applied in many areas such as glass, ceramic, plastic ware, automotive upholstery for their excellent printing adaptability, fine gloss, well decorative pattern, environmental protection, meeting the requirements of adaptable personalized and so on. Printing inkapplied to water-transfer printing have the properties of good adhesion in the printing materials, the rapid preliminary drying process, fine gloss, after tackiness resistance. The traditional solvent ink release methylbenzene, acetone, alcohol et al harmful gases, which was harm to human and environment. However, with people’s increased awareness of protecting the environment and the enactment of the relevant laws and regulations strictly restrict the use of solvent ink. Aqueous ink using water as solvent have non-toxic, environmental, safety features. the study and development of the new environment-al waterborne ink had became the primary question in water transfer in printing ink industry.Compared with traditional solvent printing ink, At present, waterborne printing ink possess many defects, for example, the weak adhesion on the printing materials, the low gloss of ink layer, slow dryness rate, the weak tackiness, which limit the waterborne printing ink widely applied in ceramic, plastic ware, automotive upholstery. and the high-grade waterborne ink which has the high requirement. This paper has studied the synthesis of the waterborne polyurethane modified keto-aldehyde resin and discussed the application in the formula of waterborne printing ink. The full paper has three parts:In the first part of this article, not only aqueous inks’composition, application and development status, but also the structure, properties, application of waterborne polyurethane modified were outlined. Furthermore, the formation and application of the waterborne modified polyurethane hybrid system were emphatically introduced. In the second part, aqueous dispersion of polyurethane were prepared from isophorone diisocyanate(IPDl), keto-aldehyde resin(KR), polypropylene glycol (PPG),and dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA),et al. The structures of the products were characterized by FT-IR. Particle-size analysis was done using laser light-scattering equipment. The effects of n(-NCO)/n(-OH) ratio, amounts of KR, dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and ethyleneiamine (EDA) on the mechanical properties by Universal tensile testing machine. The results showed that when the amount of KR-120was8.6%-10.7%, the amount of EDA was3.3%, n(-NCO):n(-OH)=(1.6-1.8):1, the WPU with good water-resistance, stability and mechanical properties could be prepared. In the third part, the aqueous ink major binders was made by the KR-WPU for their excellent performance. Where-after, the integral properties of waterborne aluminum foil ink were further improved by adding defoaming agents flow ping agent, smooth agent, film-forming agent et al. The result shows that the fundamental characteristics of the new developed aqueous ink had meet the basic standard, but the weak tackiness were also necessary to improve in the later time.
