Oil shale is a combustible fine sedimentary rock containing organicmaterial and having laminar structure. The reserves of oil shale resourcesallover the world is quite enormous. Like coal, oil and natural gas, oilshale is a flammable organic material, and it is a very important energymineral with significant economic value. Oil shale is distributed in anumber of countries and regions in the world, but the distribution isuneven. It is mainly distributed in the United States, Russia, Zaire, China,Estonia, Brazil, Australia, Canada and other countries. According to thecurrent status of oil shale reserves in the world, if we converted thereserves into shale oil, it can reach nearly400billion tons, which isseveral times of the proven recoverable oil reserves of160billion tons. The research on utilization of oil shale has once fallen into a trough. However, with the continuously rise in price of international crude oil andthe unceasing improvement in the technology of oil shale exploitation andutilization, now the exploitation and utilization of oil shale is catchingmore and more attention. Nowadays, the only few countries applying oilshale to the industrial production of shale oil are China, Estonia andBrazil. In China, Jilin, Liaoning, Maoming in Guangdong, Xinjiang and other places are gradually strengthening the research and development ofoil shale in recent years, and they have invested in building large-scale oilshale projects. In Estonia, large production device for new retortingtechnology of granular shale is under construction. In turkey, Jordan andother countries, the feasibility study for the exploitation and utilization ofoil shale has been reinforcing for the past few years, in order tostrengthen the international cooperation of shale oil industrialization. The oil shale industry of the world is growing rapidly, but thetechnology of Fushun oil shale retort has made no qualitativeimprovement in recent years. Since developed and put into production inthirties of the last century, Fushun oil shale retorting technology has had ahistory of over70years. Through the development of these years, Fushunretorting technology has accumulated mature experiences. However, thereare still some shortcomings, such as handling capacity of each retort issmall, oil recovery rate is low, calorific value of the generated gas is nothigh, condensation recovery system and equipment is huge, etc.The current handling capacity of each Fushun retort is only100t/d,and this low capacity has greatly restricted the large-scale development ofFushun retorting technology. Based on the existing Fushun retortingtechnology, this thesis compares and absorbs the outstandingachievements of the related fields at home and abroad. And then itproposes the scale expansion, and makes research on the expansion of oil shale retort and on the oil extraction system. The purpose of the scaleexpansion is to strive for the following goals, the handling capacity of500t/d, oil recovery rate of more than73%, self-sufficient calories, lowrunning and maintenance costs, and eventually realize a qualitative leapin the Fushun oil shale retorting process.
