The pollution caused by the development and utilization of fossil fuels could notbe ignored, in which the sulfide pollution is particularly serious. In this paper,Huadian and Liushuhe oil shale samples were used to study the migration regularityof sulfur to the retorting products (gaseous, solid and liquid state) during the retortingprocess by a fixed-bed distillation pilot plant under a nitrogen atmosphere. Finally, the release of H2S and COS, the sulfur contents of semi-coke, and the residual sulfurin shale oil was measured on the basis of a lot of experiments. The program control heating rate method was used to study the releasecharacteristics and effect factors of H2S during the release process. Moreover, theemission of COS was measured by mercurimetry. The results show that there is agreat relationship between the distillation migration regularity and the intrinsicproperty of oil shale, along with increasing heating rate that the release of H2Sincreased in retorting of two kinds of oil shale, the release of H2S from Huadian oilshale is stronger than Liushuhe oil shale. The release of H2S was postponed alongwith increased the oil shale sample size, the total release decrease. The particle size of0.20.6mm oil shale began to release H2S at220℃, the particle size of12.18mm oilshale began to release H2S at275℃, the characteristics are related with the content oforganic matter. The release COS of the maximum values were2.75×10-8(mol/g) and2.5×10-8(mol/g) of two kinds oil shale that almost can be identifed as the same, butthere are some different characteristics showing on the release process. In addition, the paper also measured and analyzed various forms of sulfur. Therelease of sulfur in pyrite almost in the retort process, the release temperature range is200℃600℃, organic sulfur release temperature range is200℃350℃, sulfur insulfate is essentially the same in entire retorting. Using fast pyrolysis through a singlereaction model to simulate and calculate the kinetic parameters, to get organic sulfurand pyritic sulfur through calculation of two kinds of oil shale, drawn from the difficulty of various forms of sulfur release as the theoretical basis for test results.
