Stability is an important feature of the ecosystem and directly related to the sustainable development of urban ecosystem. Accelerating urbanization, environmental pollution, irrational use of resources and other factors threatened the stability of ecosystem. With the population and the economy growing, and the continuous requirements of people’s life, how to maintain the stability of urban ecosystems and promote sustainable development of urban ecosystem into the track is a problem which worthy of study. In this paper, studies on the stability of urban ecosystem, proposed divided urban ecosystem stability upon the three states that the ecosystem changes over time. And then propose the expression of urban ecosystem stability. And take Shenzhen urban ecosystem for example, analysis the stability of1996-2009years. The results show:(1) According to the three states that the ecosystem changes over time, the stability classified into three types:the growth state of the urban ecosystem stability can be divided into steady growth, stable growth and unstable growth; the equilibrium state of the urban ecosystem is in equilibrium steady state; the aging state of the urban ecosystem in an unstable state.(2) Based on the definition of stability, with fluctuations in the size of urban ecosystems and the overall trend of urban ecosystems reflecting stability. Using the variance of elements reflects the fluctuations, and selecting the principal component analysis.(3) Take Shenzhen urban ecosystem as an example, in the previous article on the index system of urban ecosystems, based on the social, economic, natural angle indicator system building of urban ecosystem. Based on the SPSS software, using principal component to analysis the overall development trends of urban ecosystem and its fluctuation The results show that between1996-2009, Shenzhen urban ecosystem is in the state of unstable growth.
