In this paper, the ESP of a power plant in India was taken as a prototype according to a certain proportion. Based on the model tests of inlet bell and symmetrical flue tunnels, CFD method and different meshing software and solvers were used to simulate the flow fields. The optimal simulation method were obtained by comparison with the model test values. Finally, the method was applied in the design of the ESP in power plant.Main conclusions in this paper are as follow:(1) In the simulation of airflow fields inside the ESP bell, standard k-ε model and wall function method were used to dealing with the boundary conditions. Compared with the model test value, the numerical simulation method is reliable and able to meet the requirement of the design of the ESP bell. Besides, when simplifying the air distribution plate, porous medium model is superior to the porous jump model.(2) When simulating the airflow fields inside the symmetrical flue tunnels, the results were in good agreement with the experimental values by using ICEM software for meshing and FLUENT solver. So, it can guide the installation of the turning vanes in ESP device.
