Research and development of multi-axial fabric will meet the need of hi-tech sector. Recently, the composite materials with multi-axial fabric as its skeleton can be widely applied in various industries like aerospace industry, windmill blade, transportation, architectonics, athletic, leisure products, sound equipment, auto part, infrastructure, sports goods and industrial applications, because of their many advantages, such as thin walled, lightweight, the properties of isotropy, high toughness, impact resistance, morphological stability and so on. Now, laminated quadri-directional fabric and multi-axial stitch-bonded fabric are being widely used in the course of industrial production. Whereas, interfacial adhesion of layer-built quadri-directional fabric is uncertain, unstable mechanical properties, the low interlaminar strength, the poor impact resistance, and easily occurs interlaminar separation; Multi-axial stitch-bonded fabric also has many disadvantages. Its main disadvantages are the low strength, and the poor density of structure, because of the non-fixing impale position.To overcome the disadvantage of the traditional multi-axial fabric, research and development of tetr-axial fabric by using one-time-molding techniques is the key to improvement of the performance of the multi-axial fabric. Based on previous research findings, by means of structure analyses and studies on tetr-axial fabric, a basal fabric structure is used as the feasible option for researching it; a tetr-axial weaving machine was successfully developed; after a series of researches and explorations, an effective advisable technique has been established in aspects of technology and operation, it can weave production that accords with the requirement of the product design, such as process parameters, structure characteristic.In this paper, the testing of physical and mechanical properties of tetr-axial fabric, the laminated quadri-directional fabric and the conventional woven fabric, with which they have the same areal density, are compared. The results indicate, the structure of tetr-axial fabric is reasonable, the desige and manufacture of tetr-axial weaving machine is successful, the operational technique is valid; the bursting, the tensile, the shearing and the impact resistance property of the tetra-axial Fabric described in this paper are obviously better than those of layer-built quadri-directional fabric and conventional woven fabric, and it has thin-walled structure, with which they have the same areal density; through citing the successful case of tetr-axial fabric, the result can be used in the prognosis and guiding of the newly tetr-axial fabric.
