Recently, due to the state attaches great importance to weaponry and vigorouslypromotes the independent innovation, various industries are forming a huge demand ofmodern deep-hole processing technology and equipment. But the development of ourdeep-hole machining equipment is lagging behind, its design level and degree ofspecialization has a large gap compared with foreign countries, and we are lacking in originaltechnology, resulting in the contradiction between demand and supply continue to increase. Inthis context, the research of a new type of deep-hole machining equipment which has acost-effective and can quickly respond to changes is put on the agenda, and its success willgreatly enhance China’s equipment manufacturing technology level, resulting in significanteconomic and social benefits.In this paper, on the basis of in-depth analysis of the deep-hole part features anddeep-hole drilling machine structural characteristics, the design of reconfigurable deep-holeprocessing machine tool is carried out based on axiomatic design theory. The design processis as follows: firstly, the classification and coding system for deep-hole parts is established;Secondly, the functional modules of the deep hole machine are divided, and the functionmodule’s classification and coding system and module library are established; thirdly, theprocess of mapping from the deep hole parts characteristics to the machine functionsconfiguration, then to the structure of the set of modules is carried out; Finally, structuremodules are integrated into an entire machine through standardized interface and controlsystem.At last, in accordance to principles of minimizing the number of reconstruction andavoiding the remodeling of main structural, a reconfigurable deep hole machine prototype are designed, and several common reconstruction processes are successful implemented, asfollowing:①from rotator workpiece to non-rotating workpiece, or from single center hole tomultiple-holes arranged in a certain order;②from ordinary cylindrical hole to the innerabdominal hole, or from the entity drilling to the boring, reaming;③from themedium-diameter hole to the small-diameter hole, or from a single-tube drill(BTA) to gundrill.
