In today’s auto market, engineering change management mainly faces the followingtow situations: On the one hand, most of the vehicle development company uses CAD/CAM systems, and engineers manage the individual files, which can’t be integrated intoBOM management. When an engineering change occurs, the data easily lead to confusion. On the other hand, not enough attention is paid to the impact on the development progresscaused by the engineering changes. In fact, either design changes or changes in theproduction process will result in the delay for the production launch. How to use rationalmethods to reduce the impact to the production progress caused by the engineeringchanges is the main topic of this article. This article is to seek a change management approach, which on the one hand couldcalculate the spread range, on the other hand could quickly assess the impact of changeson the progress. According to this approach managers can know the impact of changes onthe progress and can make better management decisions. At first, It is the introduction ofvehicle development, engineering change management, and the relationship betweenengineering change management and BOM, and DSM(Design Structure Matrix); Then,DSM is used to analyze the impact range caused by the engineering change, and theconsequence is used to calculate the impact on the vehicle development process by such achange. In the case study section, this method is proved by the specific case in SGM, andmeanwhile, its merits and demerits are assessed. In Chapter Five, the article introduces3important factors which impact the process: The procedure of Engineering ChangeManagement; Structure of BOM Data; Authority of the Related Personnel. Finally, according to these three factors, the countermeasurement is raised.
