With the rapid development of air transport industry, air traffic environment is becomingincreasingly complex. Scientific, reasonable and accurate evaluation of the operation capability ofairspace system has become an important basis for implementing collaborative airspace and trafficmanagement, balancing airspace resources and demand, and reducing the number of flight delays. Asthe effect of objective factors, such as operating environment, and subjective factors, such as controllerworkload on airspace capacity deepens, it is necessary to study the integrated subjective and objectivecapacity evaluation techniques to refine the capacity assessment process and to establish a systematicand intensive capacity assessment method.Firstly, the dissertation analyzed the background and importance of capacity assessment, andintroduced the research status of subjective and objective capacity assessment techniques. Then, thebasic concepts of the integrated subjective and objective capacity evaluation techniques and somemature evaluation models were presented, mainly on ATC workload-based, history-based andsimulation-based capacity evaluation methods, the advantages and disadvantages, and the scopes andlimitations. In the following part, two integrated subjective and objective capacity techniques wereproposed. The first one is simulation-based subjective and objective integrated capacity evaluationmethod, with its basic idea, flow path and applications expatiated. This method was then used in theterminal area capacity evaluation at NanJing Lu Kou International Airport to validate its usability andaccuracy. Based on the evaluation result, the main factors which limited the airspace capacity wereexplored. The second one is airspace complexity-based subjective and objective integrated capacityevaluation method, with its basic idea, flow path and applications expatiated. Airspace complexitymodel and air traffic controller workload model were constructed, and simulation-based subjective andobjective integrated capacity evaluation method was proposed. The dissertation took a typical sector ofGuangzhou area control as an example to validate this model and method. Finally, the maincontributions and inadequacies were summarized, and the future research direction was viewed.
