Anchor and windlass is one of the key equipments of shipbuilding. Traditional designof anchor and windlass is experience-based, costly and inefficient compared with themodular design method, which can meet the market demand for manufacturing cost, designcycles and rapid response, and enhance the automated level of product design andcompetitiveness.The modular design of anchor and windlass was studied, and the main contents ofwhich are as follows.(1) According to the theory and methods related to modular design, module divisionmethods oriented to customers’ requirements, the product life cycle and the innovation ofproducts were concluded and proposed. Fuzzy clustering analysis method was used in thedivision method to determine the applicability of different module division.(2) Based on the division of anchor and windlass types in different ship modes andanalysis of their characteristics. General regular of anchor and windlass in shipbuildingequipment and Impact factors causing the changes of anchor and windlass structure weresummarized and advanced. Through researching on modular design of anchor and windlass,planning of modular design process of anchor and windlass, and modular division based onfuzzy cluster analysis of anchor and windlass were completed.(3) By analyzing the working principle of anchor and windlass and the structuralproperties of their different parts, linkages between the various components was gained. Themethod for determining basic parameters of structural design was obtained. The calculatedmathematic model of the main components’ structures was achieved. Therefore, the overalldesign of anchor and windlass was accomplished.(4) According to the modular dividing results of anchor and windlass, the calculatedmathematic model of structural design, platform strategy of Modular, programminglanguage VB.NET and secondary development technology of CAD and object-orientedtechnology were applied to develop design platform with user-friendly interface. Theplatform realized the parametric design of modular three-dimensional model and anchor andwindlass, which achieves the quick design and modeling of anchor and windlass.
