The adobe building is one of architectural forms, which is construction simple,affordable, energy saving and environmental protection. The adobe wall after beingremoved is reusable return to the land as fertilizer. The ecological advantages of adobewall can not be replaced by any other material. Currently, adobe building is still in usein many village residential construction of China. In order to make the construction ofthe building system more standardized to ensure the construction quality, followingwork should be done: researching on current situation of the use of adobe buildings inthe west and the central of China; analyzing the failure characteristics and mechanismof adobe walls; modeling impact factor of adobe building quality based on theInterpretive Structure Modeling (ISM) and MATLAB; analyzing the constructiontechnology and proposing improvement measures for adobe buildings. Details are asfollows:1,Research on the existing adobe buildings in some provinces,including Shaanxi,Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Hebei, Hubei and Anhui. Combing with the research results,analyze failure characteristics of adobe walls, like cracks, the surface layer peeling,weathering and rain erosion, nitrate alkali erosion, and propose the correspondingcontrol measures.2,Based on the Interpretive Structure Modeling (ISM) theory,establish ananalytical model which makes structured analysis on the impact factors of adobe building quality, use the working mechanism and modeling approach of ISM toanalyze the factors affecting the quality of adobe building construction, set up ahierarchical structure model of the factors and an ISM diagram. Finally, obtain themost influential factors for the adobe building quality are site conditions, climate,fullness of mortar joints, soil materials, and addition of the modified materials3, through the research of adobe building quality control system, materialsselection, site selection, structural design criteria and construction techniques of adoberesidential construction were studied,corresponding improvement measures wereproposed,which provide a reference for the establishment of a set of adobe buildingconstruction acceptance Standards.
