The organization and layout of large column-free spaces is one difficulty of thedesign of high-rise urban complex. It is constrained by two factors. The first one isthe division of function areas of the high-rise urban complex. Large column-freespaces should be organized in their corresponding function areas. The other one isstructure. The specificity of the structure of large column-free spaces has negativeimpacts on the overall structure of the high-rise urban complex. Therefore, the targetof the organization and layout of large column-free spaces is reducing the negativeimpact as much as possible on the basis of dividing the function areas well. The types of the organization and layout of large column-free spaces are many. Therefore, there are three problems to be solved in this paper. The first one is howmany types of the organization and layout of large column-free spaces are there. Thesecond one is what are the conditions of the generation of these types. The third oneis which type is better when the conditions of the generation of these types are same.To answer these three questions, there are three types summarized which arecentralization, dispersion and the combination of centralization and dispersion fromthe perspective of the type of spatial organization. The type of centralization can befurther divided to be parallel, superposition and the combination of parallel andsuperposition. The condition of each generation of these types is summarized.Because of the same generation conditions, superposition and dispersion, thecombination of parallel and superposition and the combination of centralization anddispersion are compared. From the perspective of vertical partition, the different layouts of large column-free spaces in the vertical direction are researched in this paper. The condition of eachlayout is summarized.
