Probe is the core component of precision measuring instruments, such ascoordinate measuring machine. It is related directly to the realization of measuringtask and the final measurement precision. In order to solve the problem of the workpiece surface data point sampling of coordinate measuring machine and other preciseinstruments, the photoelectric technology and digital signal processing technologywere utilized to develop an optical fiber trigger probe. The main content are asfollows:(1) As for the structure principle and key technology of the optical fiberprobe. This study adapts optical fiber beam system, which is consisted of transmittingfiber and the receiving fiber assembled according to a certain arrangement, the fiberoptic bundle system adopts concentric distribution, transmitting optical fiber is in thecenter, surrounded by the receiving fiber. The structure can reduce anisotropic causedby the traditional measuring head structure to a certain extent, is also helpful toimprove the reproducibility of measuring head detection. Coating technology uses ionbeam assisted deposition (IBAD) technology. Launching fiber and measuring ball tipare stacked together with a shadow less adhesive, which does not affect the normaltransmission of light. In addition, the photoelectric conversion element is optionalsilicon PIN photodiode.(2) As for design of the probe data acquisition system. It is found that whenthe light beam is irradiated to the surface of the ball, the light intensity coupled intothe receiving optical fibers distributed around the launching optical fiber will changewhen the incident angle changes. Based on this phenomenon, a silicon PINphotodiode was adapted to transfer light intensity variation into electrical signal at theend of the receiving optical fibers. After the signal preprocessing, multiple signals’analog-to-digital conversion was conducted; then DSP was used to process theacquired signals, and a trigger pulse signal was sent out when operational resultsreached a threshold.(3) Experiments were designed to test the pre-displacement and theunidirectional repeatability. Experiments indicate that the pre-displacement is0.97μm,and the unidirectional repeatability is0.42μ The results show that the optical fiberprobe meets the requirements of common coordinate measuring machine and has acertain practicability.
