Ultrasonic motors (USMs) have been developed as a new concept of motors since the1980’s. Itutilizes the vibration of the elastic body in the ultrasonic frequency band and the reverse piezoelectriceffect of piezoelectric material. The mechanical movement and torque are obtained by means of thefrictional contact force between the stator and rotor or slider. USMs can meet many new requirementsfor small and special motors because of advantages such as small size, light weight, compact structure, fast response, low noise, and no electromagnetic interference. Nowadays, this kind of motors is beingdeveloped very quickly and applied to more and more fields. In recent years, many scholars andresearch institutions have begun to carry out theoretical and experimental research of ultrasonic motor, and have achieved fruitful results.1. A micro-stepping control system of ultrasonic motor has been set up and some basicexperiments were done in this paper, at last the control system was used in microscope getting a goodresult. The main tasks and research results are as follows:This paper summarizes the history, features and applications of ultrasonic motors, introducesultrasonic motor drive control system, and discusses comparison of ultrasonic motor controlalgorithms.2. Analyzed the running mechanism of ultrasonic motor and the feature of start, shutdown then putforward and compared three ultrasonic micro-stepping strategies.3. Designed a micro-stepping control system base on PSoC3chip. A PID control algorithm wasdesigned for the control system, and a large number of test results were used to optimize the controlperformance. The system robustness was enhanced.4. The resolution, step angle and other operating parameters of control systems was test, and thecontrol systems meet the needs of the actual working conditions.
