Ultrasonic motors (USMs) have been developed as a new concept of motors since the1980’s.Itutilizes the vibration of the elastic body in the ultrasonic frequency band and the reversepiezoelectric effect of piezoelectric material. The mechanical movement and torque are obtainedby means of the frictional contact force between the stator and rotor or slider. USMs can meetmany new requirements for small and special motors because of advantages such as small size, light weight, compact structure, fast response, low noise, and no electromagnetic interference.Nowadays, this kind of motors is being developed very quickly and applied to more and morefields. In recent years, many scholars andesearch institutions have begun to carry out theoreticaland experimental research of ultrasonic motor, and have achieved fruitful results. An embedded micro-step control and detection system of a travelling wave ultrasonic motoris studied and some theory and basic experiments were done in this paper. Designed PID-basedultrasonic motor precision micro-step control algorithm,at last the control system was used inmicroscope getting a good result. The main tasks and research results are as follows:1.This paper summarizes the history and features of ultrasonic motors, introduces thetechnical of ultrasonic motor stepper control as well as research status, and Established theresearch direction, content and programs.2. Analyzed the mechanical properties, transient characteristics and stepping mechanisms ofultrasonic motor from the theoretical.3. Design of embedded ultrasonic motor micro-step control detection systems and relatedexperimental studies conducted with steady step.4. A PID control algorithm was designed for the control system, and a large number of testresults were used to optimize the control performance. The system robustness was enhanced.
