In the design and manufacture of the complex products, the function of the virtual assemblytechnology is becoming more and more prominent. As the key component of large ships, thrusterscontain a large amount of parts and complex assembly relation. The traditional methods exist manyproblems in the design and manufacture of ship thrusters, for example, they cannot get reasonablesolution efficiently and quickly in the assembly sequence planning. According to the actual needs of ashipyard, this paper introduced virtual assembly technology into the ship propulsion assembly processscheme, and the ship propulsion assembly sequence planning was studied systematically whichincluded the assembly information modeling, sequences generation, and sequence evaluation. Finally,the propeller assembly sequence planning module was developed. The main work in the paper asfollows:(1)An assembly information model representation method based on hierarchy connectionrelationship chart was put forward. This paper analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of thehierarchical model and the relationship model, then the hierarchy connection relationship chartassembly model was built. This model can properly express the hierarchy structure and connectionrelationship of the thruster parts.(2)A sequence generation method combining assembly experience knowledge and cut set wasstudied. For large-scale ship propulsion assembly, cut-set method is difficult to solve efficiently thecorrect assembly sequence. The paper presented stratified sequential method combining assemblyexperience knowledge and cut set, and specifically analyzed the sequence generation process ofthrusters(3)Assembly sequence evaluation for the propeller based on the fuzzy theory was analyzed.According to the characteristics of the assembly sequence evaluation for the propeller, two fuzzyevaluation model and the three-tier evaluation system were presented.At last, on the basic of above research, assembly sequence planning system development forpropeller was completed based on DELMIA and CAA.
