In recent years,with the new rural reconstruction advancement,more and more newhouses are contracted in rural areas for the help of government. However,most of this housesare high-energy consumption due to the inadequate concern over thermal environment andenergy saving in rural areas. The indoor thermal environment is so poor that cause a lot ofnegative effect about habitant comfort and life quality. In the past,the research of energyefficiency in residential buildings mainly focused on urban buildings and little attention waspaid to the rural residential buildings.It is extremely urgent to develop suitable energyefficiency measures to guide the construction of houses in rural areas.In this paper, we firstly investigated the annual energy consumption and indoor thermalcomfort in the zone and tested the thermal environment of rural buildings in winter andsummer each seven days in same houses in Northern Shaanxi. Based on the annual energyconsumption investigation,it has been found that the energy consumption structure ofdifferent building forms is not the same, and that the energy structure and energyconsumption level are closely related to local economic situation and resource environmentaround. According to the survey results of indoor human thermal comfort, we obtain theregion summer and winter neutral temperature is13.14℃and22.14℃respectively and theindoor thermal comfort temperature range is10.2℃to25.3℃. Additionally, the testedresults show that the thermal environment of rural houses is generally very bad. The thermalenvironment of traditional architectures like Cave dwelling is better than bungalow. The mainreason for this is that the thermal insulation of building external envelope is poor and there isnon effective heating system in house.With the fact of that the indoor thermal environment in most of rural houses because thebad thermal insulation of building external envelope, DeST-h software is used for simulatingthe different cases about indoor thermal environment. The results show that the modified palisade structure not only can effectively improve the indoor thermal environment, but canbe greatly reduce the construction heating energy consumption. A novel type of heatingmethod named of low temperature hot water heating with solar wall is presented bysimulation analysis, which can effectively improve the indoor thermal environment. Aftersimple estimation and evaluation of the new heating method from the economic point view, ithas significant effect on the cost of system operation while considering the meet requirementof energy-saving.
