The failure feature and the ultimate compressive strength of the grouted concrete block masonry are investigated by compressive test of three sets of grouted slotted concrete block masonry specimens and one set of grouted splitting-slotted concrete block masonry specimens in this paper. Failure characteristics of the compressive specimens shows that grouted slotted concrete block masonry occurred serious brittle failure when the grouted concrete strength is 3.85 times of the block strength. The results Of The compressive strength of specimen shows that with the increasing of the strength matching of grouted slotted concrete block masonry, the ratio of the average compressive strength of the test to the standard will be greater, which indicates that the compressive strength of grouted slotted concrete block masonry can be calculated by standard formula. The failure feature and the ultimate shear strength of the grouted concrete block masonry are investigated by shear tests of four sets of grouted slotted concrete block masonry specimens in this paper. Formulas of the shear strength were proposed which considered the contribution of mortar or not, respectively. In this paper, a large amount of test data about the shear test of fully grouted concrete block masonry were collected, and compared with the domestic representative shear strength formula of grouted masonry, the formula proposed in this paper and the standard formula, which shows that the standard formula is conservative, the formula proposed in this paper and the other formulas considering on the contribution of mortar to the ultimate shear strength of grouted masonry was good agreement with the test data, it has some reference value to the amendment of the ultimate shear strength formula of the grouted masonry.Reinforced concrete block masonry retaining wall has been widely used in highway and railway retaining walls engineering in abroad. However, the reinforced concrete block masonry retaining walls retaining wall was still a new-style retaining wall in China, both in the research and the application were still in initial stage of a small scale area. In this paper, the test data were discussed which obtained by out-of-plane monotonic loads test of reinforced concrete masonry walls by Ahmad A. Hamid et al.. It is shown that the design of flexural capacity of the reinforced concrete block masonry wall can use the similar flexural capacity design methods of reinforced concrete, and even safer. Furthermore, this paper per the appropriate norms and standards for retaining walls, and masonry structural design specification. The design methods of reinforced concrete block masonry retaining walls were also introduced in this paper. The variety of the measured lateral earth pressure of the back wall and the flexural reinforcement stress were very small in the field test of reinforced concrete block masonry retaining, which shows that the reinforced concrete block masonry walls of the retaining walls was still in the elastic stage. In this paper, the influence of temperature variation on tensile steel stress was analyzed by theoretical method, and the distribution range of theoretical value of the flexural reinforcement stress was calculated by similar plane assumption of the reinforced concrete which considered the uncertainty of both calculation parameters of concrete cover thickness and elasticity modulus of grouted masonry. Good agreement of the distribution range between test results and calculated values was found for the steel stress. Therefore good mechanical properties of the reinforced concrete block masonry walls can be obtained in the elastic stage.
