Based on the experimental research, the fundamental mechanical and non-linear behavior of concrete block masonry is analyzed and discussed by using several theory and FEA method.First, superiority general situation of application at home and abroad and problems faced in researching of concrete block masonry is summarized.Through the experiments of 27 compressive specimens and 36 shear specimens, the failure pattern, the cracking resistant load, the ultimate capacity and deformation capacity of concrete block masonry are analyzed. By the comparison of ungrouted masonry and masonry, it is shown that the brittle characteristics of ungrouted masonry is significantly more than for masonry. Based on the comparison of grouted masonry and ungrouted masonry, it is shown that the cracking load and ultimate load of grouted masonry can be significantly higher than for similar ungrouted masonry and the number of crack of grouted masonry is significantly more than for similar ungrouted masonry. By compressive tests on specimens, the whole stress-strain curve is regressed and the value of elastic modulus and Poission's Ratio of concrete block masonry are proposed. Based on the comparison of grouted masonry and ungrouted masonry on the stress-strain curve, it is shown that the stress-strain curve of grouted masonry is significantly non-linear characteristics than for similar ungrouted masonry.Based on compressive mechanism of concrete block masonry and the main factors influencing the compressive strength, the calculation formula of compressive strength is forwarded by the stress method and the stain method each other. Based on shear mechanism of concrete block masonry and the main factors influencing the shear strength, the calculation formula of shear strength is also forwarded by the Hoffman theory and Twin stress strength theory. The calculation formula of the paper is more comprehensive and reasonable than the calculation formula of the Code for Design of Masonry Structure and the calculated results are in good agreement with the test results. The paper does some profitable research on establishing the calculation formula of compressive strength and shear strength by theoretical research.From the strength and deformation characteristics of concrete block wall under horizontal and vertical loading, the research on the shear strength theories and formulas is made.
