The stone arch dam is a kind of arch dam with distinct Chinese characteristics and is the usual dam style in miniature water conservancy project.An introduction about several arch dam stress calculation methods were produced in this paper, such as independent arch method, arch-cantilever method, finite element method and shell theory, and briefly introduces the basic theory of some of commonly used ones, especially focusing on the finite element method. In this paper, the finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to calculate. It made many complex engineering analysis problems become easy to solve. It was more widely used. E YU arch dam is the research object of this paper, its practical works and reinforcing scheme in the preliminary design are also discussed in this paper.According to the research object in this paper E YU arch dam reinforcement engineering, it will be analyzed with numerical simulation by the finite element software ANSYS in a variety of body condition. The calculation content includes stress and displacement of the arch dam before and after the reinforcing.The main contents of this paper are as follows: (1) Using finite element software ANSYS to build the accurate original dam model; (2) The stress of original dam is got to know after the calculation. (3) The results obtain for analysis to know the preliminary safety of the arch dam. (4) To establish a model of the dam after reinforcement and get the stress, checking its influence to the stability of the dam. (5) Comparing the calculation results before and after reinforcement to analyze the feasibility of the reinforcing scheme. Through the analysis of the dam without taking into account the earthquake loading, we can see all the stress of the dam can meet the required strength and in the same body condition, arch suppress stress after reinforcing is strengthened compared with what before reinforcing, but the draw stress is reduced, before reinforcement, the maximum draw stress is 3.74 MPa, appeared in the upper third from the bottom of the dam and after reinforcement, the maximum draw stress is 3.07 MPa, reduced by 11.5%. It shows that the impact of the arch ring is significant and the reinforcing scheme is reasonable.
