The paper summarized the theory and calculation methods about sustainable development degree, and then applied it in HeBei province Qian Nanyu eco-tourism area as an example.The paper reviewed the reaches on the development of the sustainable development degree, which including the origin, connotation and the establishment principles of evaluation index system and the specific methods, besides, it contained the principles that the factors during the selection process. Moreover, the paper investigated the methods and the scope of its application to each method. Furthermore, it analyzed the calculation model and application restrictions for the sustainable development degree, in spite of which, it determined the ranks for the development of the eco-tourism area.On the basis of the theory of sustainable development degree, the paper estimated the evaluation index system according to the situation of Qian Nanyu eco-tourism area, which based on the principles that contains science, practicality, representative, comparability, dynamic. By the methods of combination of system and target, it founded the index system whose target layer was the sustainable development degree of Qian Nanyu, the rule layers were ecology sustainable development, economic sustainable development and society sustainable development degree, and then selected twenty-one factors composed the feature layer. In a word, this section is the basis and foundation of the thesis.The chief result of the sustainable development degree of Qian Nanyu eco-tourism area was 0.8416, which was situated fundamental develop period as a rather higher level.
