With the increasingly shortage of fossil energy and pressure on environmental, all industries face more and more severe energy-saving situation. As the main force of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission, power industry has important task in energy-saving. Under the above background,<Energy-saving Generation Dispatching Method (for trial implementation)> was issued in2007, the conception of energy-saving generation dispatching was proposed, and the relevant pilot projects were carried out in succession. This paper summarized the background, current situation and problem of ESGD firstly. Then this paper mainly studied the optimization methods for ESGD based on that.The optimization of output distribution should take both the coal consumption and network loss into consideration. This paper defined the comprehensive coal consumption and incremental comprehensive coal consumption. A comprehensive coal consumption incremental principle was developed, and the output distribution optimality conditions for thermal power units based on that principle were given out in this paper. The optimization of output distribution was assessed simply by using the optimality conditions. Then an output distribution algorithm that combined the equal coal consumption incremental principle and OPF (optimal power flow) was proposed, which solved the constraint conditions efficiently and reduced the energy consumption. The compute capacity to solve the problem became controllable at the same time.According to the practicality of dispatching, this paper proposed a decomposed optimization model and divided the UC into two optimization problems and perfected the model of UC (until commitment) by improving the constraints. In the optimization method,<Energy-saving Generation Dispatching Method (for trial implementation)> emphasized the sorting of units should consider the coal consumption primarily. However, the coal consumption level is obtained based on the full load of units. Besides, the single factor of coal consumption for unit commitment causes some difficulties to find the optimal result. This paper perfected the sorting factors based on that point. The patulous greedy factors greedy algorithm was proposed to solve UC. The greedy algorithm is an efficient algorithm and the initial feasible solution can be obtained by it. According to the features of UC constraints, this paper solved the exhaustive search with depth-first algorithm to guarantee the optimal extend.Cloud computing technology is developing rapidly and its application in the power system will be the trend. This paper analyzed the application fields of cloud computing in power system. As the application in dispatching system, this paper introduced the combination with cloud computing and ESGD optimization methods primarily.As one of the most important parts in power industry energy-saving, ESGD needs a lot of practices and technologies to carry out. This paper studied the optimization methods for ESGD and this will have a very important significance for the development of dispatching system.
