:Currently, the construction of comprehensive transportation system, which makes rail transit as skeleton, routine bus system as backbone, and which has been incorporated into the "Twelve-Five" of Urban Comprehensive Transportation Planning, contributes to the rapid development of China rail transit system. There is an increasing Feeder travel demand, which shall be satisfied as to fully exert the comprehensive benefits of rail transit system and routine bus system. Therefore, the layout and optimization of urban Feeder Bus Routes has been studied in this paper, which can provide a theoretical basis for effective, comprehensive operations.Based on the existing literatures at home and abroad, this paper conducts an exploration into the unique features of Feeder Bus system; the optimization of Feeder Bus stations and the layout and optimization of Feeder Bus routes network. In the first section, it mainly focuses on function definition and reasonable scale determination of Feeder Bus system; in the second one, based on feeder efficiency, feeder continuity and transfer rapidly, and in order to achieve taking the shortest feeder time to distribute the transfer passengers as more as possible, this paper develops a model of feeder stations’ feeder efficiency, which could optimize the feeder stations without directly influenced region. In the last section, it proposes a Feeder Bus Lines layout area division model, contributing to passengers’travel with minimum time. The results of model can be obtained via artificial intelligence searching method. For any layout district, it creates a layout model with the goal of maximum feeder efficiency, which uses the improved genetic algorithm for pursuing the optimal layout schemes. Based on this, the ordinary bus lines with feeder function are adjusted, and the layout and optimization of the feeder bus network as a whole are completed.Finally, the theories above are applied to the optimization of Feeder Bus network in Chongqing. For one thing, it optimized the Feeder Bus stations along Rail Transit Line3. For one another, it accomplished the optimal layout scheme of Feeder Bus lines in Huilongwan district, and achieved a better layout optimization result.
