Mould industry, which is the basis of modern manufacturing industry, occupies a pivotal position in the modern manufacturing industry and is known as "the mother of mould industry". With the rapid development of the information society, the competition of mould business is more and more fierce. And how to improve the market competitiveness of mould business is an important problem to enterprises. According to the characteristics of the mold industry, improving the production mode of the mould enterprise is a necessary direction to solve the problem of market competition in the mould enterprises. The robotic cell, as a representative of the advanced flexible manufacturing technology, was applied in mould industry to control mould production cost and improve the mould production efficiency, which is suitable for small batch and diversified production to the mould enterprises. The research on the robotic cell has an important significance to improve the market competitiveness of mould enterprises.In this paper, in-depth research was done to the robotic cell for the mould industry and the principal tasks included the following aspects:(1) Summarized the production characteristics and problems of the mould enterprises according to their production process and methods. And the robot manufacturing cell was used for intelligent manufacturing according to it’s develop overview and research status at home and abroad. On this basis, the robotic manufacturing cell system for the mould industry was build from the three aspects of system modeling, operation control and communication network services.(2) The static and dynamic behavior models of the mould robotic cell systems were established through the requirements modeling to its business process, functional requirements and functional description.(3) The operation control structures of robotic cell system for the mould industry were built through the analysis of the development process of manufacturing cell control structure combined with the requirements of operation control structure in the mould enterprises. (4) The overall network communication programs of robotic cell for the mold industry were built by analyzing the communication process and the communications between the main equipment of cell system. At the same time, simulation modeling was established by OPNET.Finally, system design and prototype development were done to cell system based on the analysis to the research results above. And verified the validity and feasibility of cell design through the application examples in the enterprise, which would be an important significance to realize enterprise information, intelligent manufacturing and improve market competitiveness of mould enterprises.
