With the development of smart grid, intelligent substation is evolving into high integrity,informatization, intelligentization, and unified standardization. The utilization of intelligentprimary equipment and networked secondary equipment provides a solution to informationsharing for substation. Since intelligent substations fulfill such roles as information collection,transmission, processing and output, the timeliness as well as accountability of networkscatches major attention, which raises the urgent need for further researches concerningfunctions of substations. For the deficiency of analysis methods and means of intelligentsubstations, this article, hence, in accordance with the status quo mentioned above, proposes astimulation platform for the network function evaluation of intelligent substations, combinedwith the establishment of related index system so as to comprehensively as well as efficientlyassess the networks.Primarily, this article describes the modeling method for key objects of intelligentsubstations, which settles both the content and the depth of intelligent substation modeling byanalyzing key objects based on IEC61850and OPENT (Optimized Network EngineeringTools), in terms of the dynamic information exchange processes. According to the analysis ofthe necessity for key objects modeling, this article also accomplishes the modeling ofprotocols, strategies and equipment that embodied the modeling of merging unit abiding bythe protocol of IEC61850, the model of IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) demonstrating themotion characters of devices, the switch model aimed at information transmission inintelligent substations, the communication link model, and the scheduling strategy modelingfor optimizing network information flow.Furthermore, this article fully utilizes models mentioned above to establish the dynamiccommunication network simulation platform for the whole life cycle of intelligent substations.Providing researching methods for the quality analysis of intelligent substation process-levelnetwork, the platform is capable of accurately simulating network information flow. Thus, itoffers intelligent substations references to the blueprinting, device models selection, operationmanners selection, etcetera. Besides, to be compatible with the request of standardized design from the power system, this article, complied with principles of unification, universalizationand modularization, presents the standardized design of the simulation platform in terms ofelements, functions and scenario. In the light of the equivalence of electric power system, it isalso seen in the article the substation secondary network information flow equivalence withseveral archetypical equivalence principles, which both lays the theoretical foundation for thesimplification of secondary network and improve the efficiency of substation simulatinganalysis.Lastly, this article, in the view of timeliness and reliability of networks, establishes theevaluation systems as well as the assessment methods for intelligent substationcommunication networks, specifies the evaluation indexes to such items as time delay,frame-losses, throughput, bandwidth availability ratio, etcetera, and introduces the multi-indexevaluation method in the network performance evaluation to assess substation network moredirectly, more efficiently and more thoroughly. The article takes the220V Qinyun Substationfor example to demonstrate the evaluation process, and the results prove the method not onlyfeasible but effective, paving the way for following researches.
