As important ship-unloading and transporting equipment in bulk cargo terminal,bridge-type grab ship unloaders are widely used in carrying bulk cargoes and are importantequipment in bulk cargo wharf. With ships larger and larger, the size of components of shipunloaders becomes larger than before. At the same time, due to its structure complication ofa ship unloader, the distribution of its stress accordingly becomes complicated. Therefore, itis very important for the design and maintenance of a ship unloader to comprehensively andaccurately calculate the stress size of each component and the distribution of stress.The method to research and assess the strength of key parts in the steel structure ofship unloaders is to combine the analysis, calculation and measurement on the basis ofstrength theory and then to analyze the fatigue strength of structure, the rigidity of steelstructure and vibration index. The major parameters are acquired mainly by measurementand their changes are monitored in accordance with the set circle. The specific forms ofimplementation are on-line assessment and regular testing. Both of the assessments arehighly specialized. The on-line assessment is relatively accurate, but its cost is a little highand it needs to be maintained regularly and to replace the sensors and so on. The cost ofoff-line assessment is relatively low, but its accuracy is not high due to a small number ofsamples. As a result, the time to stop the machine is long in the actual assessing.In my thesis, by analyzing the strength and vibration of steel structure of shipunloaders in Baogang phase two and phase three cargo wharf by using the finite-elementanalysis software ANSYS Workbench, I will get the calculating position and quantity ofpartial model of steel structure and then acquire the stress and strain distribution of localkey position by further analyzing the partial model of steel structure. The main contents ofmy thesis are:1. Analyze and calculate the strength, intrinsic frequency and vibration mode of steelstructure of ship unloaders as a whole by using ANSYS Workbench.2. The weak part (component) and the most transformed part (deflection) are foundand the calculating position and quantity of partial model of steel structure are acquired byoverall analyzing steel structure of ship unloaders.3. finite-element analysis of local key position of partial model will determine theposition of the maximum testing stress-strain signal. At the same time, it should be takeninto account that the position of acquiring signals should be suitable for the installment and testing of sensors in order to prepare for the test of the consistency of the theory and actualmeasurement.Through the above researches, we are able to precisely know the fatigue strength ofsteel structure of ship unloaders and are able to make targeted maintenances to the mainparts of steel structure to prolong its working life, to reduce the maintaining cost of shipunloaders and to maximize equipments’ profits. This is significant not only in economy butalso in the safe use of ship unloaders.
