As the basic unit of the spatial form of urban material, urban blocks have a close relationship with people’s life experience, also carries the memory of the city.Urban blocks is an important transition of the street grid and its internal block:The dimension of the blocks defined the street grid density, and urban block morphology is closely related to its internal architectural form. How to quantify and control the urban block form is a part of urban form control and an important issue of urban research. In this paper, the author uses urban blocks as the basic unit and the building shape coefficient as the main controllng parameter.A computer-aided generating tool is used to study the impact of building shape coefficient to the urban blocks.Findings present the applicable recommendations of building shape coefficient as an indicator of urban blocks morphology and controlling index re-ferences which can be quantified for urban planning workers. The main structure of this paper:Chapter1:Introduction. Introducing the the problem of the paper, and clearing the object of the paper:the urban blocks morphology and the building shape coefficient. Analyzing the existing research, and proposing the significance and methods of the paper.Chapter2:Introduction of computer-aided generating tool. Describing the development ideas of the program based on AutoCAD VBA’s programming script and methods of analysis of the generating results.Chapter3:Analysis of the generating results. The four types of urban blocks in this paper(strip residential, point residential, strip office, point office) are generated separately, and the generating results are analyzed.Chapter4:Conclusion.Reviewing the research of this paper, pointing out the shortage of the research and looking ahead the following research.
