A Research On The Living Streets Of Historical District With Urban Renewal

The main form of historical city in China is combined by living blocks, the streets there are the critical components. These streets become strong public space in existing historical urban districts.With the modernization of the cities in china, the traditional living streets have been experiencing a great challenge: on one hand, the new life style demands change in physical space, the aging of buildings also needs renewal, all these changes are greatly affecting traditional living streets; on the other hand, there is a large amount of historical resources left in these areas, the living streets also reflect a plenty of historical and cultural resources, including the spatial characteristics of the friendly feeling of space, harmonious interpersonal relationships and the very sense of identity. The renewal of traditional living streets is significant to living environment、 streets vitality、 traditional culture, etc. Therefore, this paper takes the present challenge of traditional living streets as the research object, try to find and keep advantages in these streets and reuse them in modern city space.Firstly, the thesis defines research point, The development of city has a long history, therefore, urban space will change as time goes by, especially in the context of rapid urban development, the traditional living streets vary on physical form, structure, function during a short time, preservation of historical features in varying degrees, these are the actual existence of the living streets of historical district with urban renewal. all these streets are research points. Secondly, the thesis analyzes the form of streets space, summarized from three aspects: texture、 scale、 elements. This part also looks into the functions. This part is the foundation of the following thesis. Thirdly, take Nanjing as an example, investigate the space form and the usage of living streets in historical area, summarize essence of traditional streets in Nanjing and propose the reconstruction principals for living streets.The thesis includes four chapters:chapter1, introduction. Discriminate the concept of urban historical district and traditional living streets, recognize the necessity for research topics, introduce research methods; chapter2, analysis of Characteristics associated with traditional streets Focus on the crucial impact on scales of traditional urban fabric, as well as the functionality of traditional living streets; chapter3, the example of Nanjing; chapter4, conclusions.
