In China, with the economic development and speeded-urbanization and motorization, traffic problems in cities has become increasingly prominent and severe. Road section design as an important part of traffic planning is directly affecting the play of the road traffic function. It theoretically analyzed the generation principles and characteristics of the road traffic demand, through theoretical calculation and traffic simulation method and obtained the quantitative analytical results in the assisted lane design at last.This paper described the various types in section design and its advantages and disadvantages and summarized the methods in auxiliary lane design in traffic organization. It takes New York, Tokyo and Beijing as examples and made statistics on road sections and searched traffic organization methods in home and abroad. The differences in the road section between home and abroad and the problems of road section design in china are summed in this paper.According to theory help to analyze whole demand of road space during the entire journey, put forward the method and formula to calculate space demand of left turn at road intersection and road section. By recognizing increasing left-turn traffic in China, the authors point out that the left-turn space should be emphasized in road design and traffic organization. Finally, through analyzing the disadvantages of current traffic control for left-turn traffic in China and the difference from other countries, the paper proposes traffic control for left-turns with double cross-section roadway design and should change the concept of emphasizing through traffic and neglecting left-turn traffic.Based on Impedance function which is generally used in traffic planning, it obtained the method of the marginal utility analysis in main lane, auxiliary lane affecting at the speed and capacity and the method has been verified through traffic simulation in this paper.Finally it discussed the use of U turning traffic and listed some cross section cases for study.
