Common brick solid wall is a traditional wall in China. Currently a great number of houses built of bricks can be widely seen in towns and villages. However, because of various reasons during construction and housing, those houses in brick masonry, especially houses in the vast rural areas, often have problems of low strength in masonry mortar and low quality in masonry which will directly affect the compression strength and shear strength of the brickwork, sequentially the bearing capacity of masonry structure. During previous earthquakes, houses in masonry structure in rural areas are the most severely destroyed buildings. Therefore, the study on the compression strength and shear strength of the brickwork and its reinforcement methods is of great significance.The new High Performance Ferrocement Laminate(HPFL) reinforcement method has been widely used in the reinforcement of concrete stucture and the relevant researches are in a mature stage. However, there are scanty researches on whether HPFL could also be applied to the reinforcement of masonry structure. Therefore, through experiments and analysis on the compression strength and shear strength of brick masonry structure after HPFL reinforcement, this thesis finds out some effective methodes and measures of HPFL reinforcement on brick masonry structure. The main experiment and analysis are conducted as follows:1. Prepare 4 groups of compressive specimen reinforced by HPFL and 1 group of contrasting specimen, adopt stage loading method for experimental study on compression strength, conduct comparative analysis on effects of different parameters like reinforcement layer numbers and mortar coating thickness on the bearing capacity, ductility and failure pattern of reinforced brick walls and suggest the calculation formula of compression strength of HPFL reinforced brick wall. The experimental result shows that the original brick wall can collaborate well with HPFL coating and HPFL can help improve significantly the compression strength, bearing capacity and ductility of the brick wall.2. Through the cyclic loading test on 4 HPFL reinforced brick solid walls and 1 brick wall specimen without reinforcement, analyze the seismic performance index of different reinforcement methods and present comparative analysis on the failure process, failure pattern and wall’s various seismic performance indexes before and after the reinforcement, including wall’s seismic capacity and shear strength, hysterrisis curve, skeleton curve, stiffness and stiffness degradation curve, ductility performance, deformation behavior and other features. The experimental result indicates that HPFL reinforcement method is quite effective for greatly improving the shear strength of brick solid wall. On the basis of the experiments and previous researches on shear strength of brick masonry, this thesis studies the calculation formula of shear capacity of HPFL reinforced brick masonry and suggests the calculation formula of shear capacity of HPFL reinforced brick solid wall for reference to reinforcement design.
