Ceramic insulators are important parts of Ultra High Voltage (UHV) power transmission lines, so their property has a great impact on the stability of the whole electric network. In the producing process of suspension ceramic insulators, one of the key procedures is the drying of green bodies, whose result will directly affect the quality of products.Nowadays, analog control system is still widely used to supervise the drying process of ceramic insulators. However, its complicated system, poor stability and automation make analog system inconvenient to operate and maintain. Meanwhile, computer supervisory control system based on PLC is concise in system, friendly in UI, strong in stability and easy to maintain. Therefore, computer supervisory control system is applied in more and more producing processes.In this paper, we abundantly analyze the process flow of airless rapid dryer and study related advanced technology. Combined with the control requirements, a thorough computer supervisory control system is designed for the airless rapid dryer of Dalian Insulator Group based on PLC and InTouch.In this paper, we choose DCCE PEC8000PLC as the core controller of our system and PID as the algorithm. Based on the hardware, control program is designed to realize automated control of temperature in airless rapid dryer according to preset temperature control curve. Meanwhile, we choose InTouch to design HMI for the system to realize real-time system control and monitoring, data collecting and processing, and fault analysis and alarm. What’s more, the designed HMI enables user to set temperature curve online for different ceramic insulators’drying processes. The whole system is tested and already applied in production environment now. Temperature control precision is controlled within3degree centigrade, which can satisfy the production requirements well. What’s more, the system shows great advantages in automated control, friendly operating and convenient maintenance.
