With the rapid development of port industry, navigation conditions of the fairway have gradually become the restrictive factors of port development. Scientific calculation of fairway:hrough capacity is a crucial basis for the planning, design and expansion of coastal fairway. As the main service subject of port, the attribute of arriving vessels and especially vessel combination pattern is an important factor influencing on fairway capacity in coastal port area. Further study on the influence of vessel combination pattern on fairway capacity in coastal port area has important significance to accurately calculate fairway capacity and reasonably design the construction scale of fairway.Based on the diversity and randomness of arriving vessels, through analyzing the characteristics and main types of vessel combination patterns in coastal port, the Characteristic DWT is introduced to represent vessel combination pattern and the main vessel combination patterns are determined. Meanwhile, according to actual procedure of coastal port navigation operation system, a simulation model of fairway throughput capacity is established based on various types of vessel combination pattern.At the same time, to analysis the effect of vessel combination on throughput capacity of coastal fairway, the paper focuses on the multiple navigation conditions and chooses the combinations of the main factors. Then the conception and calculation method of influence coefficients of vessel combination pattern are given out, while the ideally fairway throughput capacity is taken as the criterion. Through sensitive analyzing of the simulation results, the variation of the effect of vessel combination pattern on throughput capacity is discussed. At the end of the dissertation, both of the simulation results and the relevant conclusion are validated through analysis of some examples.From all above, this research preliminarily explored the impact of vessel combination pattern on the throughput capacity of coastal fairway, which can be applied as a theoretical reference to the planning and constructing of the coastal fairway.
