The port fairway capacity study is an important topic for the port construction and management. The capacity of fairway affects directly the capacity of port, so the capacity, calculation of port fairway is meaningful to improve the investment and income of port fairway and the handling efficiency. But the complexity of the port and fairway system and dynamic random factors induces the difficulty of the calculation of the fairway. Present study is deficient for coastal deep water ports under complex nature conditionsThe paper analyzes the operating process of the port and fairway system based on system viewpoint, which is composed of ship, anchorage, fairway and berth, studies the characters of these factors, and discusses the influence factors to the capacity of fairway, and divides the fairway capacity into theoretical capacity and design capacity. The paper uses highway service level for reference to define the fairway service level, and establishes the fairway usage, time waiting for fairway, cargo through fairway and AWT/AST and berth usage as the index of fairway service level.On the basis of system analysis, the paper establishes a queuing network model of the system for fairway capacity calculation, using the Rockwell Arena software for discrete-event simulation.The applied research of the fairway capacity model is on the Huanghua port based on the statistic data of 2004. The paper calculates the fairway capacity for different ship type combination, and evaluates the service level of the fairway. The paper calculates corresponding index value, and good validation and verification results are approached.
