In recent years, the internet of things is developed rapidly, because of the advantages of reliable operation, flexible installation and low cost, the wireless sensing unit based on ZigBee will be widely applied in smart grid. However, the research on wireless communication module in the bad electromagnetic environments of EMC ability is relatively few currently. Therefore, the performance of ZigBee technology within radio frequency electromagnetic field needs to be evaluated.This paper introduces ZigBee protocol, coupling mechanism of RF electromagnetic field and electromagnetic shielding theory firstly. And then, the immunity test of ZigBee devices is carried out in the anechoic chamber and the open field. In the end, equipments are placed in substation in order to observe the anti-disturbance performance of ZigBee technology.Through the above researches, the impact of ZigBee communication which is caused by various disturbance sources such as different frequencies, different strength and different polarization directions is summarized. Meanwhile, the ZigBee facility’s performance of interference immunity is analyzed under the steady and transient electromagnetic environment in substation. Some conclusions and measures mentioned in this article have important reference significance for the application of the internet of things in smart grid.
