In the more than2000-year feudal Chinese history, the construction of theancient capitals can reflect the development condition of different dynasties at best,which is also the precious material wealth that the history leaves for the latergenerations. However, in the long vicissitudes of dynasties, since the ancientChinese building were centered with the wood structure, the ancient capital wouldbe definitely fired and destroyed by the new emperor once the dynasty changes.Therefore, a few of ancient capital can be reserved well till present. In the recent30years, people have become more concerned about the traditional Chinese cultureso they gradually devote more and more manpower and material resources toprotect the ancient capitals and historic relics. As one of the Great ruins, theancient capital sites serve as the best complete record of the dynasties. It issignificant to protect and utilize the ancient capital sites and make them present tothe public.Located in the rural area of Xi’an City, Haojing, the capital of the WesternZhou Dynasty, has a long history so seldom of over-ground buildings exist but onlysome of rammed earth station bases, ruins of the city wall and the unearthedcultural relics of the ancient capitals are reserved. This paper takes Haojing, thecapital of the Western Zhou Dynasty, as the research object to explore theprotection and utilization of it on the strength of the theatrical systems of thecultural heritage subject and urban planning. By the research, this paper aims topromote the protection and utilization of Haojing, the ancient capital site, reservethe historic ruins and traces, excavate the thought and culture in West ZhouDynasty, improve its status in historic preservation and make contribution to theeconomic, social and environmental development of Xi’an City.This paper has five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction part, statingthe source, background, research scope, research target and meaning and thetheories of the topic. This part also analyzes the protection and utilization methodfor ancient capital sites at home and abroad in order to supply the reference for theprotection and utilization of Haojing capital site. The second chapter gives theanalysis of the historic development and evolution of Haojing, studying thearchaeological analysis, related to Haojing and the archaeological analysis of theunearthed cultural relics and found building bases as well as the development andevolution of Haojing sites. On the basis of that, it also analyzes the developmentsituation and existing issues of Haojing sites in order to provide the reference forthe future protection and utilization of the sites. The third chapter discusses thepolitical, economic and culture systems in West Zhou Dynasty and the effect ofthose systems on ancient Chinese capital construction, pointing out the important status and effect of Haojing, the capital of the Western Zhou Dynasty in ancientChinese capital construction. The fourth chapter states the establishment of theprotecting and planning concept of Haojing sites and compares the static anddynamic research methods of the sites. In the fifth chapter, it elaborates therelationship between the protection and utilization of Haojing sites and ways andcontents of the protection and utilization of sites from the aspect of culturalformation, space layout, regional ecological environment and the development ofsites and Xi’an City.
