In allusion to serious situation that the faults caused by lightning stroke frequently occur in overhead transmission lines in part of South China, and there are some limitations in the conventional lightning protection measures. An air-blast arc-quenching gap based on the "scatter" lightning protection and rapid quenching thinking is designed. It can divert the lightning current to the ground; at the same time reduce the lightning outage rate and the accident rate. With the growth of power system voltage level and power capacity, The new requirements for the arc-quenching device’s interruption performance and time characteristics of post-current arc after lighting stoke have been proposed, therefore, the development of the high-capacity rapid quenching device is imperative.The quenching characteristic of high-capacity rapid quenching device which is based on the features of the arc plasma under the effect of explosion shock wave in the constrained space is mainly studied in this thesis. The analysis of instability caused by jetting movement of the arc plasma under the high speed airflow and the pressure raise which is caused by the energy of the arc block, the theoretical basis for the research of rapid interrupter device is formed. With explicit finite element nonlinear dynamics software, simulation of the arc plasma pressure, speed, movement, deformation, failure under the effect of blast is conducted based on Mathematical model of the arc plasma and blast within the confined space. And the dynamic characteristics of the arc plasma at different explosion-center distance and the amount of explosives is also studied. The parameters of the black-box arc model were determined based on data which were acquired from small current interrupting experiment of the rapid interrupting device and reference, the high current interruption performance of the rapid interrupter device was evaluated in the electromagnetic transient software based on the Cassie-Mayr arc model, this provides the basis for its practical engineering applications.
