Vibration problem is obvious with the upstair machine in multi-storey factory.Afactory building in ShanDong province has exceeded vibrations both in floor-verticaland overall-horizontal just at the first time as upstair machine worked.This paper istrying to handle these vibrations of this special multi-storey factory.Markable advantages of TMD (passive tuned mass damper) are recognized whenstuding about the current researches and application of TMD. And this paper decides touse TMD to control these vibrations of the plant.Firstly, principles of TMD are studied. And the key parameters are mass, stiffnessand damping of the TMD which impact on vibration-control effects directly. Thefurther studies are about parameters design and parameters optimization, and anumerical algorithm for TMD’s parameters is proposed. Examples show that, thenumerical optimal method can get results in a good consistent with Warburton’sdesolve, which indicates that this method is reasonable. In addition, this numericaloptimal method can be used for single degree of freedom or more than one degreestructrues, and used in with one TMD or multi-TMD conditions for the parametersoptimization.Then finite element analysis models for the plant are choosed. There arefloor-column model for floor-vertical-vibration and three-dimentional analysis modelfor the plant’s overall-horizontal-vibration respectively. Further more, parameters andother details are also determined for TMD, and multi-TMD are used in bothvibration-control plans.Finally, numerical simulations are used to test the effects of vibration-controlplans. To control the floor-vertical-vibration, multi-TMD’s frequency is tuned to themachine excitation frequency. The simulation results have shown that the controleffect is good. After electing, the final program to control the plant’soverall-horizontal-vibration is choosed.It results a good control effects in the layers ofthe displacement, velocity and acceleration. In short, numerical simulation results showthat vertical and horizontal vibrations of the multi-storey factory have beeneffectively controlled by TMD, and all kinds of indexes of vibration are in linewith relevant standards.
