Nowadays in China and around the world, the Smart Grid has attracted great attention inelectric power system research field. Two features of the Smart Grid, self-healing and userinteraction, highly depend on the construction of Distribution Automation(DA). As the corecontent of DA, Feeder Automation(FA) plays a key role in the feature of self-healing.However the traditional FA system can not meet these new requirements. So designing acertain new kind of FA device, which performs high automatically and steadily is an urgentneed.Based on the research of traditional FA system, we introduce a new FA System based onintelligent wireless network.The system contains following functions: parameter measurement,data logging, alert monitoring, wireless communication, fault recovery, etc. We mainlyresearch about a new way that FA system works, the wireless communication technology anddesigning hardware and software of the feeder terminal.In the paper, we use a classic three-tier power network structure: feeder terminalunit(FTU) as the base, monitor substation as the middle layer, and management center as thetop. FTUs collect the power network information and restore line fault. Also them receivecommands from substation and execut them. Substation works as information bridge incertain region, getting line information and sending them to management center. Thismanagement center displays and monitors the whole target distribution network.A differential protection of centralized and decentralized distributed processing approachis designed to restore line fault in the FTU layer. We use a wireless communicationtechnology called SmartLink, which adaptively adjust to another frequency whencommunication quality is not satisfactory. And finally Object-oriented principle or actuallymodularity principle play an important role when developing software and hardware system.
