With the development of economic and technology, a variety of new materials appear, brick as a traditional building material acts no longer as the main point of architecturematerials expression. But thousands of years, the status of brick architecture in people’sheart has never been changed. In the rapid development of the building facade materials andtechnology, brick renewed vitality, a growing number of architects pay more attention tobrick, and use brick as a main element to create the skin of architecture. Now, a group ofoutstanding architecture brick skins are created.Among the ever-changing rules of bricklaying, hollow bricklaying is one of the specialone. With the changes of rules of bricklaying, many transparent holes are created in thebrickwork. The holes connect the indoor area and outdoor area by light and wind. At thesame time, the hollow brickwork as the architecture skin forms a large number of smallholes which bring positive influence to indoor light environment. Different size and shapeof the holes bring different expression to indoor light environment. The light effect which isformed by hollow brick skin is difficult to be simulated by using other architecture skin.by the exploration of light-admitting quality and inner light expression, the author triesto analyze three different hollow brick skin projects to find out the intent and method ofbuilding the hollow skins. The author expects the analysis can be reference guide for hollowbrick skin design. At the last part of the dissertation, combined with practice, integrating the applicationof theory through the hollow brick skin, an art museum in Pu’er, Yunnan province presentedas a practice example. And the skin design proposals of the museum will embody the Pu’erarts and cultural characteristics, and the functional needs the art museum.
