With the development of intelligent grid, the visualization system has been the important component of new intelligent scheduling system. By using computer graphics and graphics processing technology, the run-time state of grid visualization can display interactive grid scene which contains two-dimensional or three-dimensional models. It provides rapid help for operators to control the run-time state of grid and solve the limit violations. Currently people do lots of research on the traditional grid visualization. However, due to the C/S (Client/Server) mode, most of visualization systems have many problems, such as a long development cycle, the demand of more human and financial resources, the difficulty to update system, more tasks of maintenance. The B/S (Browser/Server) mode is a new development method for web applications. It realizes the business logic on application server, and the users can handle their business by browser simply. Because of the lower cost of development, installation and maintenance, this architecture is used to develop the application software as preferred. In order to solve the existing problems in traditional grid visualization system and increase the range of applications, the drafting techniques on desktop applications need to be used in browser. For the safety requirements by power system, it is suggested to avoid install browser plug-ins. The release of HTML5and WebGL standard allows developer to render3D scenes and models in browsers by using system graphics card. Therefore, we eliminate the trouble to develop rendering plug-in. And it brings an excellent platform for web-based grid visualization system.One target of this subject is to find an effective and reasonable way to visualize the operating grid state in add-on free browsers. We also design and study some key technologies of visualization system, such as building models in scene, the run-time grid data acquisition, description of device figures and coordinates, step-less zoom and system performance monitoring. This subject provides some effective methods and a better user experience to dispatchers.At first, this paper introduces the background of this subject and analyzes the feasibility of web-based system. The system applies the X3DOM framework that base on WebGL to develop basic components of grid models, which contains two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) contents by the core node of X3DOM. In order to realize run-time data display, the model describes interactive 3D animation with JavaScript and exchanges asynchronous data with server by using AJAX technology. Using B/S mode increases the range of application and reduces the maintenance costs. To reduce the coupling degree of visualization applications and databases, we use a service-oriented architecture so that the components can communicate with each other by independent and standard interfaces. This system also has a friendly interactive interface to realize the zoom of grid scene and switch the grid details. Finally, by the examples of ShangYuan Area and TaiAn Area, the paper shows that the web-based technologies are feasible and practicable in visualization for run-time state of grid. Then it summarizes the whole subject, points out the disadvantages of system and describes the improved direction in the future.
