With the development of the highway system, the traditional controlling and maintaining methods of street lamp can not adapt to the growth rate of transportation industry. There are mainly three controlling methods, the street lamps lighting all night, all the street lamps are turn off and turn off the lamps alternation after midnight. Problems such as energy waste, security risk and difficulty to control, however, lies in the foregoing methods. Based on the present situation of street lamp control, this thesis proposed an intelligent control algorithm which can be applied to various street lamp arrangement types. In accordance with the current street lamp arrangement and driving directions of vehicles, this algorithm enables the self-control of street lamp power switch. Consequently, an intelligent effect of "street lamp on when vehicle arrives and off when vehicles leaves" could be achieved, greatly reducing the security risk and realizing the goal of energy-saving.First, this thesis studies the Zigbee wireless communication technology, fundamentals of sensors and MSP430singel-chip microcomputer (SCM). Combining the current street lamp arrangement types, respective algorithms for single lane sinlg row street lamp, dual lane single row street lamp, ring road exit street lamp and belt road street lamp are advanced, and street lamp intelligent controling simulation system is realized. Then the simulation system consists of three major function modules, which are the main controller, the sensor and the Zigbee RF. The main controller, which processes signals collected from other modules, is the key module of the system. The sensor is responsible for collecting signals, which, after processed by the main controller modele, are used for the controlling of street lamp power switches. The Zigbee RF module realizes power switch singnal transmission between different street lamps. Finally, the street lamp controlling algorithm is embeded into the simulation system for verification and the expected goals are achieved.
