With the acceleration of the highways construction in China, there will be moreand more tunnels. The safety and the energy consumption of the tunnel attract muchattention. Because of the unique advantages, in recent years, many countries havestarted to use white LEDs as tunnel lighting sources. In view of the importance ofmesopic vision on tunnel lighting, the design of tunnel lighting with LEDs based onmesopic vision is the frontier and hot issue inland and overseas. In the thesis, the issueis researched based on Heilongyu tunnel, to provide theory and experiment foundationon using LEDs as tunnel lighting sources. The lighting system of Heilongyu tunnel is transformed with using white LEDsas lighting sources. The lighting effect and energy saving effect of the project areevaluated. White LEDs are compared with high pressure sodium lamps (HPS) whichis the traditional tunnel lighting, according to MES2-system which is latestrecommended by International Commission on Illumination, to analyze their safetyand energy saving effect based on human visual.By the experiments and related data processing, analysis, the following mainconclusions are drawn: Firstly, the new lighting system of Heilongyu tunnel has meetthe requirements of national codes, providing a safe, comfortable and energy savinglighting environment. Secondly, white LEDs are more suitable than HPS for used astunnel lighting sources, because of the environmental performance and spectralcomposition advantage. Thirdly, white LEDs with larger S/P-ratio should be chosen intunnel lighting design based on mesopic vision. The issue has five main contents: The first part introduces the development andthe status of the design of tunnel lighting with LEDs based on mesopic vision. Thesecond part discusses the design principle and evaluation parameters of tunnellighting system, the research method of mesopic photometry, and analyzesMES2-System. The third part proposes a design of the tunnel lighting, and analyzes the lighting effect and energy saving effect from two cases based on photopic vision. The forth part analyzes and compares HPS and white LEDs with different S/P-ratiosbased on mesopic vision, compares the mesopic luminance of lighting sources withdifferent S/P-ratios under the same photopic luminance, discusses the relationshipbetween photopic luminance and mesopic luminance of the sources, and theoreticaldiscusses the safety and the energy consumption of white LEDs and HPS usingHeilongyu tunnel lighting system as an example. The fifth part summarizes the aim,the significance and the conclusion of this issue, and takes a glance of the futurework.
