With the rapid development of the automobile industry, the resultingenvironmental pollution and energy shortage turns out to be more serious. Therefore, electric vehicles, for its environmental friendly and low/noise, graduallybecome the essential part of the automobile developments in many countries.Recently, many countries put substantial efforts to develop electric vehicles. Howto quickly and efficiently develop an electric vehicle meeting the requirements ofthe market is the urgent subject for countries. However, some key technics, such asinsufficient battery support and long charging time, haven’t been much improved. As a result, before improving the battery technics, how to select vehiclecomponents in order to achieve the optimal is the key point for us, which is also theresearch motivation of this study. The dynamic performance and driving distance ofvehicle can be improved by battery based on the same battery conditions.Based on a certain type of single gear electric vehicle, the work designs andcomputes some key parameters of a two-gear transmission, a motor and batteriesaccording to the vehicle dynamic performance and battery supported drivingdistance. Simulation models of vehicle components are developed using softwareADVISOR based on MATLAB/Simulink platform. The models of the vehicle, motor, battery and transmission system are analyzed. Based on the model, thedynamic performance and the battery supported driving distance are simulated. Results indicate that the developed transmission system basically meets therequirements.According to the overall requirements of electric vehicle performance, thegear ratios of the transmission system are optimized. The parameters obtained frombefore and after the optimization are simulated and compared. Results show theoptimized parameters can improve the performance. Finally, experiments arecarried out regarding the electric vehicle performance. The test results indicate thatboth the vehicle dynamic performance and battery supported driving distance canmeet the requirements. Furthermore, results from tests are compared to those fromsimulation validating the model and selected parameters. The research work investigates the parameter matching of the transmissionsystem of an electric vehicle which can provide suggestions as well as references for improving the vehicle dynamic performance and battery supported drivingdistance of the electric vehicle.
