China successfully launched the “Shenzhou8” spaceship in November2011, and hasaccomplished the docking mission with “Tiangong1” launched in September2011,which signifies that the space station’s age of our country is on the way. Space sciencefocuses on the development law of the whole extra universe. Promoting the spacescience experiments, could help people understand the space environment to moreextent, and reveal the mysteries of universe, affording the technique support forhuman exploitation. Space science experiments carry the features of complexparameter, high difficulty and resource-consuming, therefore, taking the simulatingspace experiment could avoid these demerits, with its own technique advantage.Meantime, the potential shortage of experiment design could be exposed andaddressed in an early stage.This paper take the research of space science’ theory and method, introducing themethod of calculating coordinate, time system and sun’ position in astronomy. Try totake advantage of OpenGL and GPU to model and simulate the earth’s atmosphere,the sun, the moon, the planets of the solar system and aircraft. Finally, it combines thespace science experiment and VR-GIS platform, so the main content is as following:(1) Visualization of space environmentThis paper accomplishes the celestial coordinate system and global time system,which could be used to calculate the celestial body’s position. Also, try to come upwith one approach of halo effect and design different representation of differentilluminant stars.(2) Visualization of earth’s atmosphere and cloudsIn this paper, with the analysis of the actual parameters of the Earth’s atmosphere andthe changes in atmospheric density with the elevations, the atmospheric radiationequation which could be used in calculation for GPU acceleration has been studied. The implement of exact atmospheric scattering calculation for air particles in GPU,has been designed. The efficient simulation of the Earth’s atmosphere has beenachieved by building the3D lookup table to accelerate the calculation process. Takethe usage of NormalMap to draw the real clouds texture outside the earth,accomplishing the simulating of earth clouds.(3) Visualization of aircraft’s space missionOn the basis of space experiment’s application, take the visualization of aircraft’sspace mission, simulating the accurate flight attitude and orbit. It analyzes thecalculating method of duration of the exposure from sun and the exposure rate,assisting the design of aircraft and its orbit.(4) The integration and testing of space experiment and VR-GISThis paper combines the space science experiment and VR-GIS platform, enforcingthe space science simulating platform, and the following application and testing.
