The total sales of private cars in China was continued growing in recent years, itbrought great pressure to the city traffic but also to the residential areas. Thecontradictions between live and traffic was deepened. Throughout the automotiveconsumer market in recent years, the growth of large cities closer to stable or evendecline, while small or medium-sized cities still maintain strong growth momentum.With the development of China’s urbanization, automobile consumption in small andmedium-sized cities still have tremendous room for growth, it will become the mainincremental market of China’s automobile consumption for a long time in the future.Therefore, this paper will select the city of ChaoHu to research motor-vehicle parkingin the residential area of small or medium-sized cities. Also try to make the index ofparking built and update the parking planning and design theory. The paper strive todeepened the theory study of small or medium-sized city’s residential area parking,improve the static transportation planning and design theory as well as enhance theliving environment quality and upgrade the quality of life in residential areas.Firstly, the author investigated parking issues about motor-vehicle on theresidential areas of ChaoHu by using a combination of questionnaires and examplesof forensics, then the author analyzed the statistical results found that the commonproblem of residential area’s motor-vehicles parking, summed up the reason of thisproblem. The next, the author made a systematic study about parking from the“quantity” and “quality” aspect respectively. First, from the quantity aspect bycomprehensively study the parking built indicators of domestic and internationalurban residential areas, analyzed the factors which affecting residential area’s parkingbuilt indicators and indicated the principles and methods. By the method of majorfactors in the relational model to calculate the recommended value of parking builtmatch index in different types of residential areas in ChaoHu. Then focus on the keypoint about “quality”: studied the parking spatial form, include parking layout andways of parking. It proposed advice about traditional residential and comprehensiveresidential areas’ the parking spatial form. It also proposed the reform strategy about the old residential’s parking spatial form, including the transformation of static traffic,adjustment of dynamic traffic, and apply the new management methods. Finally,selected ChaoHu’s two typical examples to analysis, found that both quantitative andqualitative aspects of the problems and proposed the transformation advice, verifiedthe theories and methods. This paper attempts to selected the case of ChaoHu toprovide a practical and workable theory for other similar cities’ residential areaswhich have the same phenomenon.
