Nowadays, the valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery is the first choice to the dcpower equipment of power system. When the ac power disappears, such as system accidentor electricity failure, the power supply of dc system will be supported by VRLA batterygroup. Reliable and safe operation of the system matters the performance of VRLAbatteries. As a result, how to monitor the working condition of VRLA batteries, and how toestablish effective maintenance management has important practical meaning.The paper introduces the importance and necessity of the research on battery detectingat first and it introduces the situation of battery detection. At the same time, it analyses thefunction and properties of the products all over the world. Then studying on the principle ofwork and performance parameters of the VRLA battery, the paper has comparative analysison detection techniques of the VRLA battery, launches a study on detecting battery state byresistance and figure out AC injection method in detecting system according to the featureof battery. Meanwhile, it gives a presentation about the model and the detection principleon VRLA battery’s internal resistance and presents a method of using voltage ratio torealize the resistance detection. Simulations were made in MATLAB to prove its feasibility.The detecting system makes use of relativity between battery resistance and its voltage.The design includes the hardware circuit and the software circuit. The process of the designof whole hardware is simulating and experimenting. As to the design of the software isdrawing the flow chart and programming the main functions.Having function tests on the detecting system, it can dignify the tiny change of them-level resistance. Then test again after changing detection frequency, and analyze theinfluence on the battery resistance. Finally getting the result that1kHz frequency isappropriate for detection on the VRLA batteries. In the experiment of monomer VRLAbattery in real situation, the error of the resistance and voltage value is within±1%,indicating that the system is effective.
